Stibnite is the mineral form of antimony trisulfide, with the chemical formula Sb₂S₃. It is a soft, lead-gray metallic mineral that commonly forms elongated, blade-like or needle-like crystals. Stibnite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and has a Mohs hardness of approximately 2, making it considerably softer and more delicate than many other minerals.

Stibnite typically forms in hydrothermal environments, particularly low-temperature mineral deposits and veins where mineral-rich fluids move through fractures in the Earth's crust. It is also the principal ore mineral of antimony.

Its distinctive metallic-gray appearance and elongated crystals have made stibnite recognizable for centuries. Historical sources document its use as a cosmetic pigment, particularly in the form of kohl, while the mineral has also played an important role as an antimony ore.
